Working Together

Research at WCRI focuses on two issues: improving women's health and using more effective models of ambulatory care. Both of these issues are complex; useful solutions require the blending of knowledge from different perspectives and research disciplines. That is why WCRI and its research faculty are committed to working in partnership with other researchers and with the clinicians, policymakers and communities who will ultimately use our research findings. We call this collaborative approach "knowledge exchange."

Knowledge exchange builds interactive relationships that give the people who will use research knowledge a role in creating and shaping it. It draws on their knowledge and insights to help us ask the most relevant research questions and to disseminate our findings in an accessible way. In December 2007, knowledge exchange officer Shannon Balla updated this guide for researchers on incorporating knowledge exchange into their work.
