Family Practice Health Centre

The Family Practice Health Centre provides care for women and men of all age groups - from newborns to the elderly. It is one of the largest clinics in Ontario, providing more than 54,000 visits per year to their patients.

The Family Practice Health Centre conducts research in a number of different areas under the guidance of family practice research director, Dr. Nicholas Pimlott. Studies include:

  • Sexual abuse/assault; family violence; gender issues; physician/patient abuse; and sexual medicine
  • Benzodiazepine prescribing and management of insomnia in the elderly; health promotion and preventive care in the elderly; provision of inpatient care by family physicians
  • Female primary care physicians; educational models for teaching academic clinicians.

The Family Practice Health Centre is also conducting breast cancer clinical trials on the use of preventative agents for high-risk women.
