Adjunct Scientist muller_book3 (57K)

Dr. Rob Muller is an associate professor of clinical-developmental psychology in the faculty of health at York University with a cross-appointment at York University’s LaMarsh Centre for Research on Violence and Conflict Resolution. He is part of the adjunct academic staff of the Hincks-Dellcrest Treatment Centre , a children’s mental health centre. At WCRI, he works in collaboration with Dr. Catherine Classen at the Trauma Therapy Program.

Research and Academic Interests:
Dr. Muller’s research program is oriented toward understanding the role that attachment and other early relationship factors play in the psychotherapy of adults and children who have experienced intra-familial psychological trauma. His focus has been on trauma therapy; trauma and avoidance; as well as trauma and avoidant attachment.

Dr. Muller is working collaboratively with colleagues at the Women Recovering from Abuse Program (WRAP) at Women’s College Hospital to examine the ways in which adult attachment patterns bear on psychotherapy outcome and process. In particular, he is looking at whether individuals with different attachment patterns respond to trauma treatment in different ways, and following different processes. He is also studying the issue of adult attachment and psychotherapy outcome on trauma patients at Homewood Hospital in Guelph, Ontario. Finally, Dr. Muller is addressing the question of attachment patterns and psychotherapy outcome on formerly abused children and their mothers in a program, entitled, The Healthy Coping Program for Abused Children. This intervention program is being carried out, and studied over the next three years across the greater Toronto area.
