Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause are all biological events associated with changes in a woman's family life and in her body. A connection between these life events and mood disorders is well established, and some work points to connections between mood disorders and women's reproductive cycles. The clinical Reproductive Life Stages Program at Women's Collge Hospital offers a combination of education, brief psychotherapy and medication, along with a multidisciplinary team approach, to assess and treat women. Care relates to mood and anxiety difficulties linked to pre-menstrual syndrome and pregnancy; postpartum depression, anxiety and psychosis; and peri-menopausal and post-menopausal psychological difficulties.
Dr. Sophie Grigoriadias is an academic leader with the Reproductive Life Stages Program.
She works in conjunction with clinicians at the Reproductive Life Stages Program to evaluate practice in these programs and to address clincal questions that arise in practice. Their work also explores the connections between women's reproductive health transitions, such as pregnancy and menopause, and women's experiences of depression and anxiety.
