Women’s Xchange sees tremendous growth in funding initiative

April 2015

Women’s XchangeIn May 2013, Women’s College Research Institute was selected by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to be the home of a new women’s health knowledge translation and exchange centre.

Since then, Women’s Xchange has seen tremendous growth in one its major initiatives — the $15K Challenge. The challenge is an innovative funding competition that provides $15,000 or more to researchers and community organizations to conduct research that addresses women’s health issues at a local level. Over the past five rounds of the competition, the number of applicants has grown from 20 (in December 2013) to 90 (in March 2015). And to date, Women’s Xchange has funded 36 small scale and four large scale projects on a variety of topics ranging from the health of nail salon workers to physical activity interventions in mosques to sexual assault at mass gatherings. The next round of the $15K Challenge will be held in the fall.
