WCH maintains ranking as one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals

November 2015

Canada’s top 40 research hospitalsIn a new report published annually by Research Infosource Inc., Women’s College Hospital is one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals for 2015 and reports the strongest growth in research activity compared to last year.

This is the fourth year that WCH has been on the list, which ranks research hospitals across Canada on the amount of research funding they attract and spend.

While maintaining its overall rank of 31, WCH outperformed many larger institutions in several categories:

  • Compared to last year, research funding at WCH grew by 28% — the highest growth across the nation.
  • Among other small hospitals, WCH maintained its spot as one of the top 10 in research intensity (i.e., the average amount of research funding per researcher, and the percentage of the hospital’s total income attributed to research funding).

“We are extremely pleased to be among the top 40 again, and to have sustained our research activity and intensity ranking among other research hospitals in Canada,” says Dr. Paula Rochon, vice-president of research at WCH. “This achievement speaks to the quality of our researchers and the reputation of our hospital in advancing the health of women and delivering health system solutions.”
