WCRI research report a top paper in journal

Dr. Steven Narod’s and Amy Finch’s recently published article Impact of Oophorectomy on Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Women With a BRCA1 or BRCA2 Mutation was the most-accessed Original Report in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in May, 2014. The article reported that women who carry a BRCA gene mutation and opt for preventive ovary removal surgery decrease their risk for ovarian or fallopian tube cancer by 80 per cent and have a 77 per cent lower risk of death from all causes than those who do not opt for surgery. This study was the first to look at these effects among a large cohort of women over a nearly six-year follow-up period.
