Dr. Anne Kenshole established the Tri-Hospital Diabetes Education Centre (TRIDEC) at Women's College Hospital and now serves as its medical director. She is a professor in the faculty of medicine, division of endocrinology and metabolism with a cross- appointment to the department of obstetrics and gynecology. She is a founding member of the Society of Obstetrical Medicine, and a member of the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre. Dr. Kenshole has received several teaching awards including a Colin R. Woolf award for Teaching Excellence in Continuing Medical Education.
Research and Academic Interests:
Dr. Kenshole's clinical research interests focus on diabetes management
particularly during pregnancy. She is currently an investigator on the
Hyperglycemia and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome (HAPO) Study which aims to clarify
how various levels of glucose intolerance during the third trimester of
pregnancy are associated with the risk of adverse outcomes. This international
study will eventually involve 25,000 pregnant women. She is also an investigator
with the TRIGR study which is examining the role of cow's milk antigen in
infants at increased risk for developing type 1 diabetes and in several trials
focused on cardiovascular disease prevention such as ASPEN, (statin use in
prevention of vascular disease in type 2 diabetes), HOPE and HOPE-TOO. She also
participates in several registries tracking therapeutic intervention and
cardiovascular outcomes.
In addition to the selected publications below, Dr. Kenshole is also the author of chapters in several medical texts including a chapter on the role of the internist in Chronic Wound Care, 3rd Edition (HMP Communications), and a the chapter on diabetes and pregnancy in Medical Complications during Pregnancy, 6th Edition (Elsevier). She co-authored the chapter on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in Medical Care of the Pregnant Patient (American College of Physicians).
