Dr.
Julie Maggi is a clinical psychiatrist in both the Positive
Care Clinic at St. Michael's Hospital and in the Mental Health in Medicine
Program at Women's College Hospital. She works with the Women and HIV Research
Program at WCRI. She is an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at
the University of Toronto and also acts as a research associate with the National Network for Environments and
Women's Health.
Research and Academic Interests:
Dr. Maggi's work focuses on the mental health needs of women living with HIV,
particularly the needs of immigrant women from countries where HIV is endemic.
These women may face particular challenges in navigating Canadian health
systems. Dr. Maggi is currently a co-principle investigator with Dr. Tamara
Daly from York University, and Dr. Mark Halman at St. Michael's Hospital on a
study of the community support services available to women living with HIV. She
is also part of a community-university research partnership led by Dr. Alan Li
examining the mental health needs of immigrants, refugees and people without
status who have HIV. She is also working with Dr. Mona Loutfy to understand and
support the pregnancy planning needs of women living with HIV.
