Spotlight on elder abuse at annual commemoration ceremony

Professor Janice Du Mont, EdD, a senior scientist at WCRI, gave the keynote presentation at WCH’s event commemorating the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Dec. 6, highlighting her research on elder abuse.

Government dignitaries including Premier Kathleen Wynne and Mayor John Tory joined staff, physicians and volunteers for the ceremony honouring the 14 women killed in the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre.

Professor Du Mont presented the talk “Violence in the lives of older women: A problem that has come of age,” about the growing problem of elder abuse in our aging population. ProfessorDu Mont is a principal investigator on a CIHR grant to develop a hospital-based elder abuse intervention.
