Each year the YWCA recognizes a group of women for the important and life-changing work they do for women and girls.

“I am thrilled to be selected for this honour,” said Dr. Ginsburg. “The incredible work of the Toronto YWCA is so very inspiring and I am truly humbled to be considered among this community of amazing women.”

As a physician, scientist and advocate for women’s right to medical care, Dr. Ginsburg has worked relentlessly to ensure that all women everywhere have access to breast cancer treatment. She is also a medical director of the Cancer Prevention and Screening Program, adjunct assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s faculty of medicine, and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and director of familial oncology at RS McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre.

Along with her many local projects, Dr. Ginsburg has done some extraordinary international work; one example is being the co-founder of the Amader Gram “Our Village” Breast Care clinic in Bangladesh, providing women there with free breast cancer treatment. She also helped develop clinical guidelines for Bangladeshi doctors to assist them in their provision of evidence-based breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Ginsburg has also been helping women in Vietnam where access to treatment for breast cancer is limited.

In Toronto, Dr. Ginsburg is a medical oncologist and scientist at WCRI, and also works with immigrant women encouraging them to seek proper breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

In Toronto and around the world, Dr. Ginsburg is transforming women’s health care.

The awards ceremony will take place May 2, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
