Women’s College a top 40 research hospital in Canada

For the second year in a row, Women’s College Hospital ranks as one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals, according to a new report released by Research Infosource Inc.

The Top 40 Research Hospitals List, published annually, examines research hospitals across the country and ranks them on their success in attracting support for health research.

The list uses data including research income, number of researchers and research intensity to rank the hospitals. Women’s College Hospital posted an increase in research income in 2012 by attracting $10.9 million in research funding, a growth of 24.4% from the previous year. This growth in research income was the seventh highest in the country. Women’s College Hospital also reported a large increase in research intensity, moving up to 14th place nationally in this category.

Overall, Women’s College Hospital came in 32nd place on the top 40 list, up one spot from last year.

“Our improved rank and research intensity reflects our growing leadership in women’s health research and innovation,” says Dr. Paula Rochon, vice-president of research at Women’s College Hospital. “The work of our world-class researchers is building our capacity and putting us in a better position to attract research funding.”
