Andrea Gruneir, PHD

Andrea Gruneir, PhD, uses large population-based administrative databases to understand the health services use patterns of older adults and to identify opportunities to improve their care. Her research aims to analyze patterns of transition between home settings (including long-term care facilities and the community) and hospitals (particularly emergency departments). Gruneir currently holds CIHR operating grants to study patterns of emergency department transfers from long-term care facilities and hospital readmissions in older adults. She has also conducted research looking at end-of-life care issues for older adults, including work related to hospice use and site of death. Gruneir also provides methodologic expertise to a number of studies looking at adverse drug events in older adults. Gruneir also participates in research to study the effects of multiple chronic conditions on health service use and outcomes among older adults.
