Joyce Nyhof-Young Headshot

Dr. Joyce Nyhof-Young is a senior education scientist, medical educator and professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, the Academics Program at Women’s College Hospital, the DFCM’s Office of Educational Scholarship, and the family health teams of Women’s College Hospital and Unity Health at St. Michael’s Hospital.

With 30 years of experience in qualitative and mixed methods, she has a research focus on participatory program development, evaluation, and capacity building in education scholarship. Under her mentorship, diverse, interdisciplinary teams have developed numerous educational programs, curricula, and resources in the MD Program, her home departments, hospital clinics, and local communities.

Education scholarship is an umbrella term that encompasses both research and innovation in health professions education. Dr. Nyhof-Young’s work integrates education, research, and innovation to ensure that materials, products, and resources developed for specific educational purposes undergo successful peer review and are made public. This approach aims to advance health professions education while improving patient care.

At Women’s College Hospital, her goal is to enhance capacity, equity, and impact in education, aligning with the hospital’s mandate to revolutionize and ensure equitable healthcare and systems. She also aims to make Women’s College Hospital the first in Canada to integrate a learning health system.
